Is Krav Maga the Most Efficient Self Defense Art?
The internet and your local YMCA are filled with so-called self defense experts. Recently a choke defense video shared on social media raised the blood pressure of legitimate martial arts and self defense experts because of the incorrect methods the video was presenting.
In this day and age, as Jocko Willink, former Navy Seal Commander, author and martial arts expert has said that the first line of defense in a dangerous situation is a gun. But for many people, this may not be a viable option for a number of reasons. For Jocko, the second line of defense would be learning a martial art like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which is built on principles of efficiency and leverage allowing smaller people to be able to protect themselves when they are outsized. We would argue that Krav Maga, the Israeli combat martial art takes this idea one step further and is most likely, THE most efficient self defense art.
Krav Maga was developed in the early 20th century by Imi Lichtenfield who as a life-long boxer and wrestler, used elements of all martial arts to create a self-defense system that distilled the most efficient techniques for surviving life-threatening situations. But Krav Maga is much more than a self defense art. It is built on an aggressive offensive philosophy that has made it the cornerstone of the Israeli special forces military training and is now taught in variations world wide.
